Guide to Swag Curtains
There are many different designs of swag curtains, ranging from those with a gently arcing midsection, to those of a more angular design. This style of curtain can either be used alone on a window or can be hung over another type of window treatment for added effect. Typically, a swag curtain consists of two sections that drop either side of the window frame and a top horizontal curtain that connects the two sides and gives a decorative appearance to the top of the window.
The benefit of using swag window treatments is that they are highly decorative and really dress up a window frame, all the while allowing maximum light through the window. The amount of material that is draped across the top of the window frame varies with the design of the curtain. It can sweep down making one arc, or it can be sewn so that there are several small arcs going across the top of the window in a type of scallop pattern.
Usually these types of curtains, which are mainly used to dress up a window as opposed to being highly functional, are made from sheer or fine material. The designs can vary greatly. There is also the swag valence. A good many of these curtains are comprised of material that is looped and draped gracefully. Others are more angular, where the lines of the material are more clearly defined.
Swag curtains look great in any room. Often they are used in living rooms, where they showcase specific windows. A window swag can also look fantastic in a bedroom, where they can give any window a soft, dreamy look. However, they are not limited to being hung in these rooms. They can also grace a kitchen window, and certainly not look out of place doing so. It all depends on the type of material that the curtains are made from. If you are planning on hanging them in the kitchen you may want to go for a gingham style of material, or some other checkered material.
